Guitar Books Help Improve Your Technique

For years guitarists have used guitar books to help improve their skill. There are books that teach technique, songs by other bands, and even in depth music theory and chord progression. There’s a guitar book for every ability level, from the first time you pick up an axe all the way up to being a guitar legend. There is always something for everyone to learn, no matter what your skill level!

Beginner guitar books teach people the basics. There are essentially two different types of these books. One that teaches songs that improve your musicality and rhythm, and lesson books that teach techniques. Both styles are great, and the one that you choose should be based on how you learn. I learned through technique books because I have a very analytical mindset. If you’re more creative than you’ll do better with the song books.

Acoustic guitar books are also an excellent place for the beginner to start. Most people start with an acoustic which has the advantage of their being nothing else to mess with other than the guitar, a tuner, and your hands. Most acoustic guitar books will teach you chords, rhythm, and song progression. You can also get the book for your favorite band or album and learn to play by replicating their style.

Classical guitar books are best for those that are wanting to improve their finger style technique. You can learn classical songs or songs by new classical guitarists. Either way will provide a challenge for all ability levels.

Guitar lesson books are also available for each skill level. You can learn everything from simple chords and scales to shred techniques and sweep arpeggios. Be sure that you’re getting a book that suits where your skills are. It can be extremely frustrating to sit in front of a book and try to learn things that your fingers don’t have a shot at pulling off. It might seem like some guitarists have a natural gift to shred, but everyone was in your situation at one point!

Learning guitar is a lifelong passion and guitar books are an excellent study material. Learning songs by the greats is like taking History class in school. We learn the past so we can build the future.
